Navatanee received world recognition when it was selected to host the 23rd World Cup of Golf in 1975 won by Johnny Miller and Lou Graham. In 1999 Navatanee hosted the Thailand Open and was voted best golf course in Thailand by Golf Digest USA. The course situated near downtown Bangkok has maintained its high-ranking status. Its beauty is enhanced by the different trees and bougainvillea found along the fairways. Nevertheless, this Robert Trent Jones Jr. course presents a challenge. One of the most difficult holes on this course is the par-4 5th at only 329 yards and the par-5 9th around the water. The par-4 6th hole at 445 yards calls for a draw from the tee to reach the green in regulation. This hole has water on its entire left and in front of the green, thus making par is even more difficult. Navatanee Golf Club has an outdoor restaurant on its clubhouse, which looks out toward the 9th hole. Caddies are very competent. The downside of the course is its rumbling changing rooms, ill-stocked kiosks and the high prices. It also lacks a driving range. You must rent a golf cart and this speeds up play. On weekends, only members are permitted on the course. However, on weekdays international visitors can also play.
