The Royal Chiang Mai Golf Club and Resort was designed with recommendations from Peter Thomson, the British open champion. The course is 40 minutes north of the city and is located in a valley. It is surrounded by the country side and natural landscape filled with streams, waterfalls and mountains. The vegetation surrounding the golf course is complemented by the numerous wildlife and birds. The Royal Chiang Mai is a short course that lies at 6969 yards. It doesn't have a couple of back tees. The many pot bunkers, closely mowed greens and the bumpy, gently rolling fairways cover up for the short distance. Players will face a challenge on this course but will benefit from the accurate ball placing instead of long shots. Each hole has greenside bunkers. The greens are elevated thus players can be easily deceived by how far the greens are and opt to underclub. Most holes are surrounded by waterfalls, lakes and streams. The par 3 holes are signature holes. The par 5 7th is the best hole on the course. The whole course provides a challenge to players of all handicaps. The clubhouse, although old, is well equipped. The golfer's terrace, golf resort which is better suited for locals rather than international visitors.
